Bethan Mitchell

About
Bethan holds a Masters in Service Design from the Royal College of Art and is passionate about enabling user centred design practices in organisations through embedded mentoring and education.
After starting her career at Snook, where she lead multiple projects aimed at equipping charities and public services to use User Centred Design tools and practices. She moved in house to work for Barnardo’s, splitting her time between the design of residential care services and leading a charity wide innovation training scheme.
She is currently at Innovation Unit and focussing her time on the co-design of community mental health initiatives and values led children’s care services.
Bethan is also an accomplished illustrator and graphic designer. Having originally trained in Visual Communication at Central Saint Martins, she now maintains a freelance practice. Her clients including The Bishop of London, Macmillan Cancer Support and JoyCorps.
Bethan is proudly Neurodivergent and teaches on the benefits of embracing diversity within design, with special focus on Dyslexia. She has delivered training for studios and educational institutions including Snook, DesignIt and Loughborough University.

Currently working to promote values led approaches to Children’s Social Care and leading the co-design of community mental health services.
Barnardo’s
Service Designer | 2022–2024
Embedded within a national programme focussed on the provision of Residential Care Services for children and young people. Additionally, leading the design of a charity wide training opportunity focussed on fostering a culture of innovation within Barnardo’s.
Snook
Service Designer | 2018–2022
Worked on a diverse range of projects with public, private and charitable sector clients. Performing the roles of design researcher, service designer and design educator. Line manager to junior designers and facilitator of whole company workshops and training.
Government Digital Service
Service Design Intern | 2017
The UK government’s first Design intern. Responsible for the development of service maps, user needs and prototypes within a multidisciplinary team.

Ivy Street Family Centre | 2021–present
Holding specific responsibility for Service Design and Marketing. Recently completed a rebrand and digital relaunch in preparation for a fundraising drive to raise funds for the completion of new building.
